the moment Kitkat entered the room his air of confidence & superiority made me squirm. sitting down at the table, he glanced from person to person & I could sense that he was evaluating each one of us, peering knowingly into our souls, reading our strategies without a single card being dealt. as the first hand was dealt & I peeked at my cards (jack-ten of hearts), I felt his penetrating stare hijack the visual centre of my brain, reading its information like an open book. as I opened the betting with a raise, I tried desperately to conceal the marginality of my hand by staring back at him, pretending to read him in turn, but his countenance was stone cold. for nine seconds our eyes remained locked, until my quivering breath grew hot & short & the skin of my face began to burn & I, trembling, was forced to look away. this creature had the poker face of poker faces, one that would make that of Ivey or Raymer look inviting & amiable.
